Overview

A Business Development Officer (BDO) builds and grows a customer base of new clients through prospecting, community involvement and proactive business development activities as well as networking and building centers of influence. Increases business development through quality loan submissions and all aspects of deal flow management as well as assists in increasing core deposits for the Bank. Develops and expands relationships for long-term business partnering with clients while referring prospective business and individual clients to internal business partners.  As a steward of the Bank’s name and reputation within the communities served, the BDO must embrace the Bank’s Mission Statement and demonstrate a thorough understanding of same through their conduct and discharge of their duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Assistance: The BDO should be available to join the Bank’s Executive Team on customer and outside sales calls in an effort to maintain existing relationships and support the development of additional business opportunities.  The BDO should be prepared to answer questions regarding the bank’s products and related services.
  • Internal Customer Contact: Frequent contact with Banking Center President/Senior Officer, and Banking Center staff.  Occasional contact with all other departments as required to discharge responsibilities. 
  • External Customer Contact:  Ongoing contact with customer base, prospective customers, third party vendors and professionals engaged by or involved with the Bank.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration or Accounting. MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years banking experience. Experience in Treasury Services preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills (verbal and written) and an intentional, insightful and discerning listener.
  • Trustworthy, conscientious, courteous, of stable temperament, self-motivated, highly organized and highly accountable for personal conduct, actions and decisions.
  • Willing and able to take decisive actions within the scope of bank policies and procedural guidelines.
  • Strong consensus builder, comfortable with rendering and implementing decisions relevant to the consideration of loan opportunities presented to the Bank.
  • Strong mathematical and grammatical aptitude.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office and computerized word processor functions and programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Windows, Excel, Quicken or other similar programs. Must possess the desire and ability to learn automated data-analysis tools and techniques.
